Great organizations are built with intention.

At risk3sixty, we believe that clarity creates freedom. When people know exactly what they’re responsible for, they can make decisions confidently, take ownership, and move fast. Ambiguity, on the other hand, creates friction. It slows teams down, causes overlap, and can lead to frustration or burnout.

That’s why we take organizational design seriously.

Every role, every meeting, and every process has a purpose. We’ve learned that the best organizational structure don’t restrict autonomy - but they do ensure oversight, make communication easy, and drive accountability. Clear structure allows creativity to flourish within defined boundaries.

Our approach is to build an organization with just the right amount of structure - balancing being flat with enough hierarchy to make judicious decisions.

risk3sixty's Organizational Structure

We’ve built a simple, but effective governance frameworks that promote clarity without adding too much bureaucracy. It enables decisions to be made by the people closest to the work, with alignment to our purpose, values, and goals.

Here’s an overview of the key governance structures that help us lead with intention:

Executive Leadership Team (ELT)

The ELT is responsible for setting the overall direction of the company. This team focuses on long-term strategy, financial health, and organizational culture. The ELT ensures that our Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) remains front and center and that every part of the business is aligned to it.

Information Risk Council (IRC)

At risk3sixty we maintain ISO 27001 (Security), ISO 27701 (Privacy), and AI Governance programs. The IRC governs the firm’s information security, compliance, and risk management practices. This council ensures that our internal programs meet the same high standards we deliver to clients. It provides oversight for certifications, client trust, and our own continuous improvement.

Extended Leadership Team (XLT)

The XLT brings together leaders from across departments to align on strategy, culture, and execution. It’s where ideas meet reality and where leaders share insights from the front lines and help shape company-wide initiatives. The XLT keeps communication flowing between the ELT and the broader organization, ensuring that everyone is rowing in the same direction while maintaining flexibility at the team level.

Quality Assurance (QA)

Our QA function exists to protect the integrity of our work. This team provides independent review and validation across projects to ensure our clients receive consistent, high-quality outcomes. They help teams uphold our standards of excellence and continuously improve through feedback and collaboration in accordance with standards we are governed by such as the PCI SSC, AICPA, CREST, ISO, and our own internal standards.

Department Leaders

Department Leaders oversee day-to-day operations within their functional areas. They are the culture carriers and the first line of leadership for most team members. Their role is to connect the company’s vision to the individual contributor’s experience making sure each person understands how their work supports our purpose, values, and goals.

Why Organizational Design Matters To You

You might be wondering: Why does all of this internal structure and governance matter to you?

At first glance, things like leadership councils, governance frameworks, and defined roles can sound like “back office” topics. But for our clients, partners, and team members, this level of structure and transparency is one of the most important reasons to trust risk3sixty.

Here’s why: clarity drives consistency. Because when roles and responsibilities are clearly defined, you get reliable outcomes. You know who is accountable for what. How decisions are made. And that every part of the organization from executive strategy to project delivery is aligned around the same mission.

This structure also means you’re never depending on one person’s memory, availability, or judgment. You’re depending on a system that’s been intentionally built to support quality, transparency, and long-term success.

For our team, this clarity creates empowerment. For our clients, it creates confidence. And for me as a leader, it’s a way of saying: we take our responsibility to you seriously enough to build the kind of company you can count on.

I hope the fact that we are even taking the time and transparency to talk about it inspires confidence and trust.

What’s Next

Clarity of roles and governance gives our team the structure to operate with intent, but structure alone isn’t enough. To stay aligned, motivated, and connected, teams also need rhythm.

Rhythm is what keeps the organization beating in time. They drive how information flows, how priorities stay synchronized, and how momentum is maintained across every level of the business.

In the next part of this series, Part 5: Rhythms, we’ll explore how we design meeting cadences, communication channels, and leadership touchpoints to keep the entire company moving in unison. You’ll see how predictable, purposeful rhythms transform structure into motion and help us turn vision into execution, week after week.
