Business Continuity Awareness Week is an annual global event that is facilitated by the Business Continuity Institute.
From May 18th through May 22nd, business continuity professionals, organizations, and industries at large will be participating in an annual event known as Business Continuity Awareness Week, or BCAW.
BCAW was started and continues to be hosted by The Business Continuity Institute, a not-for-profit organization devoted to the education and training of business continuity professionals and evangelism of the business resiliency message.
What does this mean for you?
You may have experienced difficulty achieving executive buy-in or cultural change per the business continuity planning you’ve worked diligently in drafting.
This is normal, not only with business continuity initiatives, but with most organizational changes.
This is where BCAW can help you. The primary goal of BCAW is for professionals to take that evangelized business resiliency message and spread it within their organizations. As with other awareness weeks and months established by other organizations, this can be a great time to advance a specific cause.
You may find that a great return on your time investment is using this week to generate awareness in your existing program by incorporating a few of these ideas:
- Schedule Tabletops: Schedule your next disaster recovery or business continuity tabletop with key stakeholders. Point to global BCAW participation as a driver for gaining participation.
- Updated Documentation: Ensure your business continuity and disaster recovery plans are updated by reaching out to the various process owners and walking through existing documentation.
- Feedback and Improvement: Provide updated policies and documentation to the organization with the intention of getting feedback to improve the content and flow.
- Town Hall: Conduct a town hall with your team, not only to train but to gain an understanding of their thoughts on business resiliency.
